TLDR Review: HiBy R1 HiFi MP3 Player
Verdict
The HiBy R1 is a solid choice if you are after a high-resolution, portable music player prioritizing local lossless playback from large microSD cards with superior sound quality for the price. However, be cautious about the battery life and build quality issues reported by users. If streaming services like Tidal or Qobuz are a priority, this player will likely frustrate you due to unstable app performance and no offline storage option. For a pure offline HiFi experience, especially with wired headphones and big music libraries, the R1 shines—just be sure to consider battery durability and lack of internal storage as trade-offs. If you want a more reliable streaming experience on a similar device, you may want to explore other HiFi players with stronger streaming app support or better battery feedback, though we don’t have a direct alternative right here to recommend.

- •Compact, small, and portable design makes it great for audiophiles on the go.
- •Versatile connection options including Bluetooth 5.1 and wired output allow use with PC speakers, car stereos, and Bluetooth speakers.
- •High-resolution audio certified and offers MSEB tuning for customizable sound quality.
- •Easy music transfer from PC to microSD card, which is the primary storage method, simplifying management of local files.
- •Offers surprisingly big, clear sound for its size, especially with good wired headphones like Sennheiser 599SE or AirPods Pro.
- •Intuitive touchscreen and decent user interface for straightforward local playback.
- •Provides a significant sound quality upgrade compared to typical smartphone audio.
Cons
- •Only plays music from a microSD card; no support for internal playback without external storage.
- •Battery reliability is a concern—multiple reports of the battery failing or swelling within months, causing physical damage to the device.
- •Build quality feels cheap, with a plastic body and less premium materials.
- •Streaming services like Tidal and Qobuz are poorly supported, with frequent logout issues and no offline download capability, making the player unsuitable for serious streaming use.
- •Operating system and phone app are clunky, not very user-friendly, and network setup can be frustrating due to the T9 keyboard input method.
- •Included headphones in value bundles are low quality and generally not recommended.
- •Despite claims, it can play MP4 and iTunes formats but functionality remains limited overall for non-local playback.
- •Not ideal as a primary streaming device given software limitations and connectivity quirks—better suited as a backup or dedicated offline player.
