TLDR Review: Greenworks 80V Cordless Snow Shovel
Verdict
The Greenworks 80V 12” Brushless Cordless Snow Shovel is a robust and quiet tool that delivers impressive power and battery life for clearing small to medium flat areas like decks and sidewalks. However, its heavier weight and limited snow direction control mean it’s best suited for users comfortable handling around 15-20 pounds of equipment and who have mostly straightforward snow removal needs. If you’re looking for a powerful cordless solution and can manage the weight, this shovel will save your back compared to manual shoveling. For those needing lighter equipment or more versatile snow directing ability, you might want to explore traditional snow shovels or snow blowers with wheels that reduce physical strain and offer better maneuverability.
- Top pro:
- Battery lasts through multiple uses on a large driveway and charges fully within 60 minutes, offering solid runtime for most snow removal tasks.
- Top con:
- Heavier than many users expect at around 15 to 20 pounds, which may cause fatigue or be difficult for those with less upper body strength or hand arthritis.
Pros
- •Battery lasts through multiple uses on a large driveway and charges fully within 60 minutes, offering solid runtime for most snow removal tasks.
- •Powerful brushless motor easily handles heavy, wet, icy, and slushy snow without bogging down.
- •Quiet operation compared to gas-powered alternatives, making it more pleasant to use in residential areas.
- •Throws snow effectively 20 to 30 feet, reducing issues with snow buildup or melting on lawns and decks.
- •Durable construction stands up well to frequent use, with a design fitting perfectly into the Greenworks 80V battery ecosystem.
- •Significantly reduces physical strain compared to manual shoveling, acting as a back saver when clearing decks, sidewalks, and small driveways.
- •Performs well in tight spaces and on flat surfaces, making it ideal for decks, walkways, and small driveways.
- •Using the included smaller 2.0Ah battery keeps the weight down while still providing enough power for typical snow removal jobs.
Cons
- •Heavier than many users expect at around 15 to 20 pounds, which may cause fatigue or be difficult for those with less upper body strength or hand arthritis.
- •The shovel’s weight and design require bending over during use, which can lead to discomfort or quicker fatigue.
- •Lacks directional control for snow discharge—snow only blows straight ahead—making it less ideal for clearing large driveways where snow needs to be moved left or right.
- •Not well suited for stairs or very tight spaces due to bulk and weight.
- •Can occasionally get clogged with leaves or debris underneath, though clearing clogs is generally easy and quick.
- •Better suited for young or stronger individuals; users who want lighter or easier tools may find traditional shovels or wheeled snow blowers preferable.
- •Requires some planning to avoid blowing snow into unwanted areas like neighboring property or landscaping.
