TLDR Review: Greenworks 80V Brushless Lawn Mower
Verdict
The Greenworks 80V 21" Brushless Cordless Lawn Mower is a strong, eco-friendly alternative to gas mowers that combines cordless convenience, powerful cutting performance, and compatibility with a broad 80V tool ecosystem. Its lightweight design and quiet operation make yard work easier, though as a push mower, it may not be ideal for users seeking less physical effort or faster mowing on large or uneven terrain. Battery runtime is sufficient for average-size yards but might require extra batteries for nonstop work on bigger properties or thick grass. If you want the same power with easier operation, consider looking for the *self-propelled* version of this mower. Overall, it's a highly recommended choice for those who prioritize low maintenance, environmentally friendly operation, and tool compatibility.
- Top pro:
- Powerful brushless motor delivers performance comparable to a 160cc gas engine without the hassle of fumes or gas maintenance.
- Top con:
- This model is a push mower, not self-propelled, which can make mowing larger or uneven lawns more physically demanding.
Pros
- •Powerful brushless motor delivers performance comparable to a 160cc gas engine without the hassle of fumes or gas maintenance.
- •Lightweight and easy to push, making mowing less tiring, especially on flat yards.
- •Comes with two 2.0Ah batteries and a rapid 30-minute charger, enabling near-continuous mowing by swapping batteries.
- •Batteries are compatible with over 20 other Greenworks 80V tools, adding versatility and cost savings.
- •Large 10" rear wheels and steel deck provide durability and ease of movement over uneven terrain.
- •Smart Cut load-sensing technology adjusts motor speed based on grass thickness for efficiency and battery conservation.
- •Quiet operation reduces noise substantially compared to gas mowers.
- •Simple and fast blade replacement with no professional help needed.
- •Easy single-lever all-wheel height adjustment offers convenient cutting height changes.
- •Effective on large properties (up to about an acre) and can handle tall, thick, or slightly wet grass with some care.
Cons
- •This model is a push mower, not self-propelled, which can make mowing larger or uneven lawns more physically demanding.
- •Battery life can be shorter than advertised under heavy or wet grass conditions, sometimes less than 30 minutes per battery.
- •Minor ergonomic annoyances include handle knobs occasionally loosening and a bag that can be tricky to empty cleanly.
- •The bagger, while effective, becomes heavy and harder to maneuver when full.
- •Some users note that the mower occasionally leaves clumps of uncut grass at higher motor speeds, requiring manual spot trimming.
- •Swapping batteries is essential due to runtime limits, which might necessitate investing in additional batteries for larger yards.
- •Close trimming near vertical edges can be challenging—wheel alignment doesn’t completely match blade width for neat edges.
- •The mower may be slower with very tall, thick grass and requires a more patient approach compared to gas mowers.
- •With only 2.0Ah batteries included, runtime may be limited unless upgraded to higher capacity batteries.
