TLDR Review: Gorilla Double Sided Tape
Verdict
The Gorilla Tough & Clear Double Sided Mounting Tape offers excellent adhesion for lighter, flat-surface applications and performs well in various weather conditions. However, its inability to consistently live up to the advertised weight capacity and struggles with heavier or textured items make it less reliable for demanding projects. For consistent, heavy-duty use, it might be worthwhile to explore alternatives like 3M products, which some users suggest as better options.
- Top pro:
- Highly effective for weatherizing projects, such as applying plastic sheeting, and reduces electric bills by maintaining indoor temperature.
- Top con:
- The claimed holding capacity of 15 lbs is misleading, only supports 1 lb per 4 inches.
Pros
- •Highly effective for weatherizing projects, such as applying plastic sheeting, and reduces electric bills by maintaining indoor temperature.
- •Strong adhesion on brick surfaces, securely holding items like signs and a Ring Doorbell.
- •Successfully reused for mounting shower guides, proving to be a reliable alternative to screws.
- •Gel-like substance allows for movement with temperature changes, preventing detachment.
- •Resistant to environmental conditions such as heat, rain, and wind without losing grip.
- •Holds firm for at least a week, effectively sticking sheer curtains to metal surfaces.
Cons
- •The claimed holding capacity of 15 lbs is misleading, only supports 1 lb per 4 inches.
- •Struggles with larger items, failing to hold knife racks and a bumper securely.
- •Adhesive strips are criticized for resembling low-quality sticky putty rather than a strong adhesive.
- •Experiences of the tape failing to support lightweight items like a 2-pound Christmas star.
- •Not considered a permanent solution for hanging, with difficulty maintaining a bond over time.
- •Removal of the backing cover is challenging, leading to frustration.
