TLDR Review: Google Nest Doorbell (Wired)
Verdict
The Google Nest Doorbell (Wired) delivers top-tier video quality, solid integration with Google’s smart home ecosystem, and a generally smooth installation experience, making it a great choice if you want a reliable wired smart doorbell. However, be ready for the mandatory Nest Aware subscription if you want full functionality like continuous recording and intelligent alerts, plus the potential quirks with wiring compatibility and customer support. If bulkier design or subscription costs are dealbreakers, you may want to explore alternatives, but for Google fans looking for clarity and smart home synergy, this is a strong contender.
- Top pro:
- Easy installation with straightforward, step-by-step instructions makes setup a breeze for most users.
- Top con:
- Requires a Nest Aware subscription for video recording and intelligent person alerts, which adds ongoing costs.

- •The doorbell maintains reliable functionality and weather durability, lasting multiple years even in harsh conditions like intense Texas sun.

- •Integration with Google Home can sometimes experience glitches and reliability hiccups.
- •No local recording option; all video storage depends on a cloud subscription.
- •Customer support, especially for warranty claims through Amazon purchases, has been criticized as unresponsive or difficult.
- •Setup can require removing the previous device from the app before adding the Nest Doorbell, causing minor frustration for some.
- •The finish on the device may start to peel or show wear over time in harsh weather conditions.
