TLDR Review: GIGABYTE X870E AORUS Elite Motherboard
Verdict
If you're after a visually striking, future-ready AMD AM5 motherboard with top-tier memory performance and comprehensive connectivity, the GIGABYTE X870E AORUS Elite WIFI7 ICE certainly delivers. It's a powerhouse tailored for gamers, power users, and creators craving stability and speed with an eye-catching white design. However, be prepared to tinker a little, especially with BIOS quirks and the SSD cooling setup, and watch out for inconsistent build quality from certain retailers. If you want a similarly premium AM5 board but prefer a more conventional BIOS or less fuss over M.2 cooling, you might want to explore other options in the AM5 space depending on your priorities.
- Top pro:
- Stunning iced-out white design with soft reflective glow, making RGB lighting really pop for a visually unique build.
- Top con:
- The SSD heat spreader design is underwhelming and might cause more harm than good; some users prefer removing it for better M.2 drive cooling.
Pros

- •Rock-solid build quality with reinforced PCIe slots, premium heatsinks, and an overall sturdy feel that spells durability.
- •Offers comprehensive connectivity: PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, four M.2 slots (with three heatsink-cooled), optical audio out, dual USB-C ports, and an impressive ten USB-A ports (eight are USB 3.2).
- •Supports extremely stable and fast memory speeds, hitting up to 6000MT/s fully populated, with potential for 8200MT/s on two DIMMs—outpacing many competitors.
- •Advanced networking with latest Wi-Fi 7 and fast 2.5GbE LAN for smooth connectivity and future-proofing.
- •Includes convenient EZ-Latch for easier GPU installation and removal, plus additional PCIe x4 slots for expansion cards like sound or capture cards.

- •Diagnostic DB_PORT simplifies error checking during build or troubleshooting.
- •Comes with a lengthy 5-year warranty showing confidence in product longevity.
Cons
- •The SSD heat spreader design is underwhelming and might cause more harm than good; some users prefer removing it for better M.2 drive cooling.
- •Not ideal for single-sided M.2 SSDs due to fitting and compatibility issues with the heatsinks and foam pads.
- •BIOS navigation is not the most user-friendly compared to ASUS boards and needs a tiny USB drive for flash updates, which can be a hassle.
- •Built-in RGB and software update utilities have reliability issues and often require disabling in favor of third-party solutions.
- •To access the PCIe x16 slot latch, you must remove the primary M.2 heatsink—a minor but annoying inconvenience during hardware swaps.
- •Some reports of structural fragility like broken PCIe clips and minor manufacturing imperfections; quality control seems inconsistent depending on source.
- •BIOS can auto-disable context restore with EXPO enabled, leading to notably longer boot times (up to 3 minutes on large RAM setups).
- •The white aesthetic, while gorgeous, may not be everyone's cup of tea—it's a niche look intended for themed builds.
