TLDR Review: Gas One GS-3400P Camping Stove
Verdict
The Gas One GS-3400P is a versatile, portable camping stove that hits the mark for casual campers and emergency preparedness at an affordable price. It shines with fuel flexibility and ease of use but falls short if you need faster cooking times or rugged durability for heavy use. If you want quicker heating or a more robust setup with better wind protection, you might want to explore higher BTU models or stoves that include built-in stabilizers and wind screens. Overall, this stove is a solid, budget-friendly choice for basic outdoor cooking needs.
- Top pro:
- Offers great fuel flexibility with the ability to use both propane and butane canisters, making it adaptable for various camping situations.
- Top con:
- The 8,000 BTU version heats slowly, which can be frustrating if you need quicker cooking times; higher BTU models are recommended for heavy use.
Pros
- •Offers great fuel flexibility with the ability to use both propane and butane canisters, making it adaptable for various camping situations.
- •Lightweight and compact design with a well-organized carrying case for easy transport and storage.
- •Reliable and consistent ignition system, performing well even in windy conditions thanks to an effective wind deflector included in the case.
- •Suitable for basic cooking tasks such as boiling water, making coffee, and cooking simple meals like eggs and bacon.
- •Simple to set up and control the heat, ideal for casual outdoor cooking and emergency preparedness kits.
- •Built enough to meet expectations for occasional use while being very portable for camping or overlanding trips.
- •Heats efficiently and boils water, although the 15,000 BTU model improves cooking speed significantly over the 8,000 BTU version.
- •Comes with a functional, albeit basic, plastic carrying case that makes it easy to carry and protects the stove during travel.
- •Practical and essential for casual campers, emergency kits, or outdoor enthusiasts wanting a no-fuss stove.
- •Easy to clean and maintain after use.
Cons
- •The 8,000 BTU version heats slowly, which can be frustrating if you need quicker cooking times; higher BTU models are recommended for heavy use.
- •Instructions for propane setup are not very clear, and the stove design might differ from online guides, which could confuse first-time users.
- •Not as durable or heavy-duty as premium camping stove brands; better suited for occasional rather than heavy, frequent use.
- •Lacks built-in stable surfaces and wind screens, which means it might need additional accessories for more secure placement and better wind resistance outdoors.
- •The plastic carrying case is basic and may not withstand rough handling over long-term use.
- •Butane function, while included, is less tested by users compared to propane, so some uncertainty remains in that area.
- •May require an additional grill or stabilizer to safely support pots and pans during cooking.
- •Not officially recommended by the manufacturer for indoor use, even though some users have found it effective with proper ventilation and carbon monoxide detection.
