TLDR Review: Franklin Sports Disc Golf Set
Verdict
The Franklin Sports Disc Golf Set is a fantastic, budget-friendly option for beginners, families, and casual players looking for a lightweight, portable disc golf basket combo to practice and have fun outdoors. However, if you’re aiming for serious training or want a durable, tournament-quality basket, this set’s lightweight construction and low-quality chains might leave you frustrated. For those wanting better disc quality or more robust durability, investing in a separate disc set and possibly a sturdier target might be wise. For casual play and easy setup, this set is hard to beat.
- Top pro:
- Super light and very easy to assemble, making it approachable for all ages, even kids as young as 12 can set it up quickly.
- Top con:
- Basket is very lightweight, making it prone to tipping over easily in wind or with stronger throws.
Pros
- •Super light and very easy to assemble, making it approachable for all ages, even kids as young as 12 can set it up quickly.
- •Portable and easy to move around the yard or park thanks to its lightweight design and included carrying bag.
- •Stable enough to withstand various throws on flat ground and performs well on uneven surfaces.
- •Great for casual backyard play or spontaneous practice sessions, providing fun for the whole family.
- •Comes with three discs included, allowing beginners to start playing immediately without extra purchases.
- •Improves game skills effectively for amateur players looking to practice putting.
- •Affordable and practical, offering good value for casual disc golf enthusiasts.
- •Fabric and construction make it usable even in snowy conditions, extending playtime across seasons.
Cons
- •Basket is very lightweight, making it prone to tipping over easily in wind or with stronger throws.
- •Plastic chains are low quality, often allowing discs to pass through instead of stopping them cleanly, especially frustrating for more serious players.
- •Plastic chains are also prone to breaking after stronger hits, reducing durability.
- •Included discs are generally poor quality, with only the putter being reasonably usable; better discs are recommended for improved play experience.
- •Fabric on the carrying bag can be low quality and may rip under rough use or strong wind.
- •Not suitable for serious training or competitive play, as it lacks the sturdiness and chain quality of official metal baskets.
- •Users suggest adding a second layer of chains to improve catching, but this does not significantly add weight or durability.
- •Overall performance and durability limitations mean it’s best seen as a casual practice set rather than a permanent course basket replacement.
