TLDR Review: EKO Mirage-T Motion Sensor Trash Can
Verdict
The EKO Mirage-T 50 Liter Touchless Trash Can offers elegant design, solid build quality, and the convenience of a motion-activated lid with a manual hold-open feature. However, potential buyers should be aware of mixed reports about the sensor’s reliability and the plastic bottom that may trap odors, which somewhat undercut the premium stainless steel promise. If you want a stylish, moderately sized, hands-free trash solution and can tolerate occasional quirks with the sensor and base, this is a decent pick. But if consistent sensor performance and fully odor-proof materials are top priorities, you might want to *consider alternatives* with more consistent motion detection technology and all-metal construction.
- Top pro:
- The motion sensor auto-opens the lid smoothly and reliably, allowing for convenient hands-free use.
- Top con:
- Some users report inconsistent motion sensor performance, with the lid occasionally failing to open or closing incompletely, causing frustration.
Pros
- •The motion sensor auto-opens the lid smoothly and reliably, allowing for convenient hands-free use.
- •Sturdy stainless steel construction helps prevent tipping, even around small pets.
- •Sleek, modern design with a brushed stainless steel finish complements kitchen appliances, and the rectangular shape fits well in many spaces.
- •The lid feels solid and durable, with a touchless swipe-to-open feature that enhances hygiene.
- •Includes a trash bag liner ring that neatly hides the bag’s interior for a clean look.
- •The lid offers a countdown LED to indicate when it will close, and it automatically closes after a short delay to minimize odors.
- •Manual mode keeps the lid open with a button press, adding versatility for when needed.
- •Setup is easy—just add batteries (not included) and line the bag.
- •The size is generally practical for typical kitchen use, with a 50-liter/13.2-gallon capacity that many find spacious.
- •Stickers on the lid come off easily without damage.
Cons
- •Some users report inconsistent motion sensor performance, with the lid occasionally failing to open or closing incompletely, causing frustration.
- •The plastic bottom with ventilation holes may trap odors, undermining the stainless steel’s benefits and potentially causing unpleasant smells over time.
- •The plastic base detracts from the otherwise stainless steel aesthetic and may limit durability or odor control.
- •The trash can size is smaller than some expected, leading to disappointment for those needing more capacity.
- •A sticky QR code sticker inside is difficult to remove and can trap trash particles, becoming a nuisance.
- •Battery life and replacements do not seem to improve motion sensor consistency.
- •The lid sometimes leaves a small gap when closed, which could reduce odor containment.
- •Users find the bag liner design occasionally inconvenient and tricky to use smoothly.
- •Overall, a few buyers feel the product is not worth the price due to sensor and design issues.
