TLDR Review: EF ECOFLOW RIVER 3 Plus Power Station
Verdict
The EF ECOFLOW RIVER 3 Plus with EB600 extra battery is a versatile, portable power station that shines for outdoor use, camping, and maintaining essential electronics during power outages. Its silent operation, quick charging, and expandable battery capacity make it a solid choice if you need reliable backup power for moderate loads. However, if you’re looking for a foolproof professional-grade UPS with built-in surge protection and fully automatic management, you might find this unit’s quirks and required manual maintenance frustrating. For those users, considering alternative models specifically designed as high-end UPS solutions might be a better bet. If you want a reliable power station with a strong focus on portability and decent UPS functionality, this is a solid pick overall.
- Top pro:
- Performs effectively as a UPS for network devices, WiFi, and computers, keeping them powered during outages.
- Top con:
- The unit sometimes randomly shuts down even with “Never” timeout set, requiring occasional manual power cycling.

- •Fast charging capabilities (up to 650W) recharge the unit efficiently, with USB-C and 12V lighter plug options proving versatile.
- •Reliable brand backing and highly recommended based on multiple user positive experiences.
Cons
- •The unit sometimes randomly shuts down even with “Never” timeout set, requiring occasional manual power cycling.
- •AC output often limited to about 150W despite the rated 600W capacity, which can frustrate users needing more consistent power delivery.
- •Lacks built-in surge protection, meaning users should invest in an external surge protector to safeguard sensitive electronics.
- •Backup reserve and battery maintenance require manual intervention every few months, with no automated cycle support.
- •The UPS feature does not always handle voltage fluctuations smoothly, potentially interrupting sensitive equipment.
- •Some users report unexpected power cuts and shutdowns, making it less reliable for professional-grade UPS needs.
- •EcoFlow app requests excessive personal data including location, and has accessibility issues (especially with iOS VoiceOver).
- •Initial device operation may emit a noticeable plastic or adhesive smell, which typically fades with time.
