TLDR Review: eero 6 Mesh Wifi System
Verdict
The Amazon eero 6 mesh Wi-Fi system offers straightforward installation, improved coverage, and reliable performance for most homes, especially those with larger or challenging layouts. However, its secondary unit functions more like a basic extender, which might limit coverage for some users with large or multi-level dwellings. If you need peak performance with a true mesh backhaul, considering a system with dedicated backhaul channels or higher speeds might be worthwhile. For typical home use, especially with moderate internet plans, the eero 6 provides excellent value and ease of use.
- Top pro:
- Easy to set up after initial adjustments, making installation a breeze
- Top con:
- The secondary extender/router sometimes functions more like a basic extender with limited speed gains
Pros
- •Easy to set up after initial adjustments, making installation a breeze
- •Significantly improves Wi-Fi coverage, especially in dead zones and hard-to-reach areas
- •Boosts speeds across large spaces, with notable increases in bedrooms and common areas
- •Compatible with existing routers and supports various modes for flexible integration
- •Stylish and neat design that blends well with home decor
- •Reliable connection with no drops or buffering issues reported after setup
- •Effectively penetrates obstacles like closets and furniture for stable signals
- •Recommended by technicians, highlighting its dependability for heavy internet use
- •Handles multiple devices simultaneously, ideal for working from home or streaming
- •Cost-effective solution compared to other mesh Wi-Fi systems
Cons
- •The secondary extender/router sometimes functions more like a basic extender with limited speed gains
- •Upstairs coverage and speeds can drop significantly, creating some dead zones
- •The secondary unit may not fully resolve all coverage issues, acting as a simple extender rather than a true mesh backhaul
- •Without a dedicated backhaul channel, performance drops can occur in larger or complex layouts
- •Speeds may vary depending on device placement; optimal positioning is required for best results
- •Slightly lower speeds when connected to the secondary unit compared to the primary router
- •Some users experience better performance by disconnecting and reconnecting devices directly to the main router
- •If existing infrastructure isn’t robust, it may act as a bottleneck, not a fault of the system itself
