TLDR Review: Edifier R1700BT Speakers
Verdict
The Edifier R1700BT delivers a balanced, clean sound with a stylish wooden design and versatile connectivity, making it a fantastic choice for anyone seeking powerful bookshelf speakers without the hassle of separate amps or subs—especially for music genres that don’t rely heavily on deep bass. If you want enhanced bass performance, a higher quality remote, or advanced Bluetooth features, consider stepping up to the R1700BTs variant instead. All in all, these speakers punch well above their price point and are a solid pick for budget-conscious audiophiles.
- Top pro:
- Speakers are angled at 10 degrees, directing sound naturally toward the listener without extra fiddling.
- Top con:
- Bass can feel somewhat weak and drops off quickly below 50 Hz, a limitation from the 4" woofers.
Pros
- •Speakers are angled at 10 degrees, directing sound naturally toward the listener without extra fiddling.
- •Front-facing subwoofer port allows placement close to walls without muffling airflow or bass response.
- •Sound profile is balanced and natural, with clear mids and highs plus minimal tweeter distortion even at high volumes.
- •Bass is surprisingly deep and tight for bookshelf speakers, though not overpowering or muddy.
- •Build quality is solid with textured wood veneer, giving a premium look and feel that fits well in both casual and stylish setups.
- •Bluetooth connection is reliable, stable up to about 40 feet, with minimal lag or interference.
- •Offers versatile connectivity options including Bluetooth, 3.5mm, and RCA inputs for easy use with many devices.
- •Easily reaches loud volumes without distortion while maintaining clear instrument and vocal separation.
- •Includes adjustable knobs for treble and bass, letting you tailor the sound to your liking.
- •Great value for budget audiophiles wanting clear, detailed sound without needing a separate amp or subwoofer.
Cons
- •Bass can feel somewhat weak and drops off quickly below 50 Hz, a limitation from the 4" woofers.
- •Power switch on the back is inconvenient for those who frequently toggle the speakers on and off.
- •Remote control can be temperamental; factory battery often needs replacement with a CR2032 for better performance.
- •Side-mounted volume dials may bother some users who prefer front-facing controls.
- •Compared to systems with separate subwoofers (like Klipsch 2.1 setups), bass impact is less powerful and has less low-end rumble.
- •The R1700BT lacks some features found in the R1700BTs variant, such as a better remote with spatial enhancer and likely improved Bluetooth range.
- •Initial "break-in" time is needed before the sound fully opens up and reveals its best detail and liveliness.
