TLDR Review: DEWALT DWE7800 Drywall Sander
Verdict
If you need a heavy-duty, high-quality drywall sander with superior dust collection and strong suction for ceilings, the DEWALT DWE7800 is a solid choice — _just be ready to handle its weight and invest in the right vacuum setup._ The lack of included hoses and regional voltage limitations mean you should double-check compatibility before buying. For a potentially lighter, equally capable alternative, you might consider the Porter Cable model if storage or hose availability concerns you.
- Top pro:
- Performs very well on flat surfaces without wandering, providing a smooth finish.
- Top con:
- The sander feels noticeably heavy and can be difficult to handle for extended periods or large surfaces.
Pros
- •Performs very well on flat surfaces without wandering, providing a smooth finish.
- •Dust collection system works better than expected, especially when used with a compatible vacuum.
- •Powerful suction holds the sander firmly against ceilings, reducing gouges and easing ceiling sanding tasks.
- •Built with durable construction, feeling significantly higher quality compared to similar brands like Porter Cable.
- •Comfortable to use on ceilings when held at a 4 o'clock angle, especially with a pole attachment.
- •Capable of heavy-duty sanding tasks, suitable for professional and serious DIY use.
- •Comparable in performance to the Porter Cable Drywall Sander but with superior material quality.
Cons
- •The sander feels noticeably heavy and can be difficult to handle for extended periods or large surfaces.
- •Takes some practice and experience to achieve the desired finish, especially on ceilings and big walls.
- •Requires a proper vacuum for optimal dust collection; performance drops with incompatible vacuums.
- •Does not come with or have available a hose for dust collection, and proprietary hoses/adapters are needed for non-Dewalt vacuums.
- •Power cord placement next to the dust port can be awkward and impact ease of use.
- •The pole attachment does not collapse into multiple sections, making storage bulkier.
- •The product is set up for European 220V power supply, which may cause compatibility issues for users in other regions without an adapter or converter.
- •Does not include a storage bag for convenience.
