TLDR Review: DEWALT 20V MAX XR Leaf Blower
Verdict
If you're after a lightweight, cordless blower for quick, light-duty cleaning around small yards or decks, the DEWALT 20V MAX* XR blower can get the job done — but only if you don’t mind frequent battery swaps and deciphering cryptic instructions. Its power and battery life won’t impress anyone tackling serious leaf cleanup or large spaces, and frustration with battery endurance is common. For heavy-duty or longer runtime needs, you may want to consider higher-voltage models or gas-powered blowers that deliver more juice and better endurance. If the battery life and power concerns have you raising an eyebrow, check out other cordless blowers with better battery longevity or even gas variants for bigger jobs.
- Top pro:
- Provides solid power and efficiency for light to moderate yard work, such as clearing dry leaves off small decks, porches, and playground equipment.
- Top con:
- Battery life is a major pain point, often lasting only about 10-15 minutes on full power and draining much faster than expected, even with larger batteries.
Pros
- •Provides solid power and efficiency for light to moderate yard work, such as clearing dry leaves off small decks, porches, and playground equipment.
- •Offers variable speed trigger and speed lock for good control over airflow.
- •Lightweight and ergonomic design helps reduce user fatigue compared to bulkier gas blowers.
- •Quiet enough for residential use with a decibel rating of 66 dB, which is manageable for many users.
- •Well-built construction typical of DEWALT tools, delivering reliable performance for cordless handheld blowers.
- •Runtime can extend up to 60 minutes on low settings with the right battery, making it suitable for shorter tasks.
- •Comes with a concentrator nozzle for more focused airflow.
Cons
- •Battery life is a major pain point, often lasting only about 10-15 minutes on full power and draining much faster than expected, even with larger batteries.
- •Performance noticeably fades as the battery drains, making it less effective for bigger or heavier leaf clearing jobs.
- •Not powerful enough for heavy-duty tasks like large driveways, rooftops, or thick wet leaves—better suited to light cleanup.
- •Battery clip is frustratingly tight and difficult to remove, adding to user annoyance.
- •Instructions are confusing and poorly written, making it hard to figure out basic features like the 'cone' release tab.
- •The blower occasionally clogs or struggles with leaf buildup, interrupting continuous use.
- •Heavier than some gas models, which can cause fatigue during extended use, especially with bigger batteries.
- •Run time numbers advertised often only apply at low, ineffective airflow settings.
- •Lacking a bag kit and vacuum capability limits versatility.
- •Users report it can feel like a 'decaf espresso' in power—promises more than it delivers.
