TLDR Review: Continental Grand Prix 5000 Tires
Verdict
The Continental Grand Prix 5000 Bike Tire - 2 Pack offers high speed and long-distance performance, making it ideal for racing and training, but its thin casing and susceptibility to flats make it less suitable for rough daily riding. Prepare for challenging mounting and occasional punctures; consider alternatives if durability and flat resistance are top priorities.
- Top pro:
- Excellent all-around performance with strong rolling resistance, acceleration, cornering, and speed
- Top con:
- Not very durable against debris; the thin casing led to punctures even on well-maintained roads
Pros
- •Excellent all-around performance with strong rolling resistance, acceleration, cornering, and speed
- •Well built with durable construction and long-lasting performance, with front tires lasting over 6,500 miles
- •Recognized as a favorite among users for quality and reliability, with many satisfied enough to repurchase
- •Performs well over long distances, maintaining good conditions after many years of use
- •Relatively puncture-resistant, suitable for frequent riding on clean roads, and offers good value for the quality
- •Tires soften after breaking in, improving comfort and speed with patience
- •Suitable for training and racing due to its lightweight and fast-rolling design
- •Reasonably priced considering its performance and longevity
Cons
- •Not very durable against debris; the thin casing led to punctures even on well-maintained roads
- •Some tires experienced tread separation and rubber cracking, raising concerns about longevity
- •Mounting can be difficult, especially on larger or modern carbon wheels, requiring patience and force
- •Claims of flat resistance can be misleading; flats occurred even with clean roads and no foreign objects
- •Cracking can happen faster than expected in certain weather conditions, possibly due to age or exposure
- •Not suitable for everyday rough use, with better options like Gatorskins or Vittoria Rubino Pros available for durable daily riding
- •Compatibility issues, especially with carbon wheelsets, may cause damage and install difficulties unless using newer models
- •Might require stretching, soaping, or levering during installation—methods that are often ineffective and frustrating
