TLDR Review: Canon Pixma iX6820 Printer
Verdict
The Canon Pixma iX6820 is a solid choice if you prioritize exceptional print quality for business documents, artwork, and tabloid-sized media, with efficient ink usage as a bonus. However, it’s not the fastest printer around and comes with some reliability concerns, especially regarding paper feeding and wireless setup. If you want hassle-free, reliable mechanical performance with similar quality, you might want to explore other Canon business printers or models known for tougher build quality. Still, if outstanding print quality and vibrant colors are your main priorities—and you're okay managing a few quirks—this printer will deliver.
- Top pro:
- Produces excellent, vivid, and high-contrast prints with smooth color transitions, making images and artwork really pop.
- Top con:
- Paper feed mechanism can be unreliable, often requiring manual adjustment to prevent jams or misfeeds.
Pros
- •Produces excellent, vivid, and high-contrast prints with smooth color transitions, making images and artwork really pop.
- •Ink cartridges last significantly longer than in previous models, improving overall ink efficiency.
- •Print quality is consistent and can be finely tuned to closely match monitor colors, great for color-accurate projects.
- •Minimal banding issues compared to older Canon models; occasional banding mostly only on the very first print after sitting idle.
- •Very high-quality prints even on plain copy paper, not just specialty media.
- •Quiet operation, which is a plus for office environments despite slower print speeds (about 15 minutes for 25 full-color pages).
- •Easy installation process, though setup files might need to be downloaded twice.
- •Compatible with wireless printing standards like AirPrint and cloud services, plus simple WPS modem connection.
- •Produces excellent tabloid-size prints and works particularly well for detailed artwork such as watercolor or pen & ink reproduction.
- •Ink cartridges cleanly install and offer good longevity compared to older generation printers.
Cons
- •Paper feed mechanism can be unreliable, often requiring manual adjustment to prevent jams or misfeeds.
- •Wireless connectivity setup can be tricky and problematic for some users, with several unable to resolve connection issues.
- •Ink level sensor is known to be overly sensitive, giving premature low-ink warnings even though print quality remains unaffected.
- •Ink cartridges are expensive, leading to higher overall running costs despite their longevity.
- •Printer speed is relatively slow compared to some competitors, which might be a drawback for heavy business use.
- •The printer does not include USB or network cables, which might be inconvenient if you don’t have your own.
- •Reports of quick mechanical failures, like rollers breaking shortly after purchase, with replacement units sometimes experiencing the same issue.
- •Customer service experience has been described as unhelpful regarding mechanical problems and warranty solutions.
