TLDR Review: Canon PGI-270 XL Black Ink Cartridge
Verdict
If you want reliable, high-quality pigment black ink that works seamlessly with a wide range of Canon printers—especially if print durability and sharp text are priorities—this Canon PGI-270 XL cartridge is a solid choice. Just be prepared for the rising price and somewhat limited local availability, and consider buying online where these are more accessible and often better priced. If you’re a light printer worried about fast ink depletion, stocking up on single cartridges might be a wise move to avoid waste. For a comparable genuine ink that offers the same compatibility and quality, this is the standard OEM option to trust.
- Top pro:
- Produces high-quality, sharp prints consistently, even on older Canon models like the MG6800 and MG5720.
- Top con:
- Genuine cartridges are becoming more expensive and harder to find in local stores.
Pros
- •Produces high-quality, sharp prints consistently, even on older Canon models like the MG6800 and MG5720.
- •Genuine Canon ink ensures compatibility without rejection issues, maintaining printer health.
- •XL size cartridges provide longer usage, reducing how often you need to replace ink.
- •Ink dries quickly, cutting down on smudging for clean, professional-looking documents and photos.
- •The pigment black ink offers better durability than regular dye-based inks, resulting in longer-lasting prints.
- •Easy to install cartridges that fit perfectly with compatible Canon printers (TS9020, TS8020, MG series, etc.).
- •Minimal odor during printing, which is more pleasant than some alternatives.
- •Offers better value compared to purchasing from big box stores, especially when bought online.
Cons
- •Genuine cartridges are becoming more expensive and harder to find in local stores.
- •Ink tends to run out quickly, even with light usage, which might be frustrating for low-volume printers.
- •Packaging separates ink colors into individual boxes rather than providing a more consolidated option.
- •Preference expressed by some users to buy single cartridges to avoid leftover unused ink, implying bundled packs aren't ideal.
