TLDR Review: Breville Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL
Verdict
The Breville Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL is a compact powerhouse that excels at quick, consistent toasting and versatile cooking for small households or limited kitchen spaces. Its fast heating, smart controls, and thoughtful features like the “Bit More” button make it a delight to use, although it’s not going to replace your conventional oven for larger meals. If you want a reliable, durable toaster oven with excellent performance and a sleek design, this is a top contender. However, if you need a larger capacity or quieter operation, you might want to explore other high-end toaster ovens with more interior space or quieter alerts.
- Top pro:
- Toasts quickly and produces consistently better toast than most traditional toasters, with even browning and a warm, moist center.
- Top con:
- Toasting times sometimes need adjustment when doing multiple slices consecutively due to residual oven heat affecting results.
Pros
- •Toasts quickly and produces consistently better toast than most traditional toasters, with even browning and a warm, moist center.
- •Compact, lightweight design saves counter space and is perfect for small kitchens or limited spaces.
- •Heats up very fast (around 3 minutes to 425°F), making it energy-efficient compared to conventional ovens.
- •Versatile functions including toasting, baking, broiling, and reheating, handling small meals without the need to use a full-sized oven.
- •Easy-to-use controls with tactile dials, buttons, and a clear LCD screen that shows preheating status and countdown timer.
- •“A Bit More” button lets you add extra cooking time conveniently without restarting the cycle.
- •Convenient pull-out crumb tray for quick and easy cleaning with protective guards on heating elements.
- •High build quality with durable components and a sleek brushed stainless steel finish that fits well in modern kitchens.
- •Remembers last used settings for each function, streamlining frequent use.
- •Broil function requires no preheating and works well for quick searing tasks.
Cons
- •Toasting times sometimes need adjustment when doing multiple slices consecutively due to residual oven heat affecting results.
- •The underside of toast doesn’t brown as much, likely due to the rack design.
- •The interior height limits the practicality of the middle rack position for some foods, and food can get dangerously close to heating elements on top and bottom racks.
- •The oven exterior, especially the top, gets very hot during operation, requiring careful placement and clearance to avoid heat damage.
- •Loud, sharp beeping sounds on button presses and cycle completions may be intrusive in quiet settings.
- •Primarily suited for small portions; it won’t fully replace a larger oven for bigger meals or baking needs.
- •Slightly slower than a microwave for reheating, though it delivers better-tasting results.
- •Some users noted risks of receiving returned or previously used units, so buying from reputable sellers is advised.
