TLDR Review: Bose SoundLink Plus Speaker
Verdict
The Bose SoundLink Plus is a premium portable Bluetooth speaker built for those who prioritize rugged durability and rich, punchy sound in an outdoor-ready package. With solid battery life, waterproofing, and the convenience of device charging, it covers all the basics for adventures and everyday use—though it falls short if you want smart assistant features or lightning-fast charging. If you want similar durability plus phone call support and longer playback while possibly saving a little, you might want to check out the JBL Charge 6. But if Bose’s signature sound quality and robust build appeal to you, this speaker delivers consistently strong performance.
- Top pro:
- Delivers rich, detailed, and loud sound with strong bass and clear treble, outperforming many similarly sized portable speakers.
- Top con:
- Distortion can creep in at high volume levels, especially when pushed outdoors or at maximum output.
Pros

- •Rugged, durable design with an IP67 rating, making it waterproof, dustproof, shock-resistant, and even floatable—perfect for outdoor adventures.
- •Up to 20 hours of battery life at moderate volume levels, suitable for extended use without worrying about frequent recharging.
- •Features a premium build with powder-coated steel grille and soft-touch silicone body, giving it a solid and high-quality feel.
- •USB-C port doubles as a 15W power bank, allowing you to charge other devices on the go — a handy emergency feature.
- •Support for Bluetooth 5.4 with multipoint connectivity, aptX Adaptive codec, and Google Fast Pair ensures stable and versatile wireless performance.
- •Can pair two units for stereo or party mode, expanding the sound experience when needed.
- •Companion Bose app offers basic EQ customization, battery monitoring, and speaker linking for extra control.
- •Compact enough to be easily portable with a sturdy nylon loop for carrying convenience.
- •Generally low distortion at typical listening volumes, with punchy bass and well-controlled mids and highs.
Cons
- •Distortion can creep in at high volume levels, especially when pushed outdoors or at maximum output.
- •No wired audio input, Wi-Fi, or built-in microphones, so no phone call support or voice assistant integration.
- •Charging time is relatively slow, taking about five hours for a full charge, so you’ll want to plan ahead.
- •The silicone coating tends to attract lint and dust, requiring occasional cleaning to maintain the look.
- •Slightly heavy at around 3.5 pounds, which may make it less ideal for ultra-light backpacking or long hikes.
- •Lacks advanced app features and customization compared to some competitors with more robust software ecosystems.
- •The mono speaker setup limits the soundstage, making stereo expansion dependent on pairing two units.
- •Premium price point with fewer extra features than some competitors like JBL Charge 6 or Sony Xperia speakers, which offer longer battery life and call support.
