TLDR Review: Bog DeathGrip Tripod
Verdict
The BOG DeathGrip Aluminum Tripod is a well-built, versatile, and extremely stable support system designed for serious hunters and shooters who need reliable performance in tough outdoor settings. While it comes with a bit of extra weight and some initial setup quirks (a hidden screw and tool needed!), the tripod's sturdiness, adjustability, and multipurpose functionality deliver excellent value for those who prioritize precision and durability. If you want something lighter or simpler, you might want to explore lighter monopods, but for heavy-duty stability and adaptability across shooting positions, this tripod is hard to beat.
- Top pro:
- Heavy duty and extremely stable, perfect for rugged outdoor hunting and shooting conditions.
- Top con:
- Heavier than typical tripods, weighing about 8.5 pounds, which might be a downside for ultralight hunters or long hikes.
Pros
- •Heavy duty and extremely stable, perfect for rugged outdoor hunting and shooting conditions.
- •Fully adjustable with a wide range of movements: low/high, swivel, tilt, and traverse for different shooting positions.
- •Rubber padded bench vise grip holds rifles securely, even with foam or neoprene padding on stocks.
- •Durable aluminum construction ensures long-lasting use even with rough handling and customization.
- •Quick and easy setup with no assembly required; ready to use in under a minute.
- •Circular bubble level is accurate, aiding in precise leveling for consistent shots.
- •Legs feature three-position pushbutton stops and rubber feet with steel points for excellent grip on uneven or slippery terrain.
- •Multipurpose design allows attachment of accessories such as spotting scopes, cameras, small tables, or brass catchers.
- •Folds compactly for easy transport and storage, yet still accommodates prone shooting positions well.
- •Hands-free operation enhances comfort and convenience, especially when sitting in a blind or waiting long periods.
Cons
- •Heavier than typical tripods, weighing about 8.5 pounds, which might be a downside for ultralight hunters or long hikes.
- •Initial head movement is very tight and not smooth out of the box; requires finding and loosening a hidden 5mm screw under a rubber plug to fix.
- •Adjustment instructions lack clarity, especially regarding tripod head tuning, and a 5mm Allen wrench is necessary but not included.
- •Requires more torque to keep heavier rifles like the AR10 perfectly steady, so some users may find it less ideal for very heavy firearms initially.
- •Setup can be fiddly at first due to tight clamps and adjustments before everything runs smoothly.
