TLDR Review: Beats Powerbeats Pro Earbuds
Verdict
If you want wireless earbuds that *won’t budge* during your sweatiest workouts with great sound, solid iPhone integration, and easy controls, the Powerbeats Pro deliver in all those departments. However, do brace yourself for some comfort quirks if you wear glasses and prepare for potential battery life issues after a few years. The lack of noise cancellation and occasional charging quirks may also give pause. If you’re looking for truly long-term earbuds or want active noise cancellation, you might want to keep an eye on upcoming competitors or alternative options. For now, these remain an excellent choice especially if your top priority is a secure fit for exercise.
- Top pro:
- Secure fit with over-the-ear hooks keeps the earbuds firmly in place during intense workouts and movement.
- Top con:
- The earbuds lack fully customizable inner-ear pads and have limited adjustability, which can cause discomfort for some users, especially those who wear glasses (ear hooks may rub).
Pros
- •Secure fit with over-the-ear hooks keeps the earbuds firmly in place during intense workouts and movement.
- •Volume control and media playback are conveniently accessible directly from both earbuds.
- •Seamless hands-free Siri integration offers easy voice commands without touching your phone or earbuds.
- •Impressive battery life provides over 5 hours of continuous music listening per charge, with a total of 9 hours including the charging case.
- •Effortless pairing with iPhones and a handy battery level display simplify connectivity and monitoring.
- •Sound quality is excellent for music, podcasts, and phone calls, getting better after a break-in period.
- •Multiple sets of in-ear rubber tips are included to help customize the fit for better comfort and stability.
- •Well-crafted design with a premium look and feel; the charging case features a magnetic snap closure and is pocket-friendly.
- •The twist-forward ear motion allows users to quickly "break the seal" to hear surroundings without removing the earbuds.
- •Packaging is nicely done, enhancing the overall unboxing experience.
Cons
- •The earbuds lack fully customizable inner-ear pads and have limited adjustability, which can cause discomfort for some users, especially those who wear glasses (ear hooks may rub).
- •Charging can be finicky if earbuds are not perfectly seated in the case, sometimes requiring extra attention.
- •Battery status notifications are helpful but do not always appear consistently, leaving some uncertainty about remaining runtime.
- •The earbuds can unexpectedly power off despite having a charge, forcing users to reset by returning them to the case—a frustrating interruption.
- •The charging case lid shows slight looseness when fully open, detracting a bit from the otherwise premium design.
- •No active noise-canceling feature, which some users miss in this price range.
- •Battery life tends to significantly degrade after about three years of use, dropping to roughly 1.25 hours per charge, which is disappointing given the premium cost.
- •The two-year protection plan feels insufficient compared to the product’s price and expected lifespan.
- •The "aging design" aspect makes this feel like a product overdue for an update.
- •Requires overnight charging to manage even short usage sessions once battery deterioration sets in.
