TLDR Review: Beats Powerbeats Pro 2
Verdict
The Powerbeats Pro 2 are solid workout earbuds with excellent battery life, secure fit, and effective noise cancellation—they're genuinely impressive if you're an Apple user or serious about fitness tracking. However, they're not a massive upgrade from the original generation, and some users report quality compromises (particularly the case construction) that make them feel like a step backward in some ways. If comfort and reliable controls are priorities for you, test the fit first, and make sure the heart rate tracking limitations on Android don't break your use case.
- Top pro:
- Secure-fit earhooks stay locked in place during intense workouts, even with winter hats or headwear
- Top con:
- Controls are poorly positioned and trigger accidentally during normal wear and adjustment
Pros
- •Secure-fit earhooks stay locked in place during intense workouts, even with winter hats or headwear
- •Active Noise Cancelling effectively blocks out gym noise while Transparency Mode lets you hear your surroundings when needed
- •Heart rate monitoring syncs with Nike Run Club app for real-time workout feedback
- •Exceptional battery life at 10 hours per charge (8 with ANC on), with very fast charging and USB-C/wireless charging case support
- •About 20% lighter than the original generation, making a noticeable difference during extended wear
- •Comfortable enough for 12+ hours of continuous wear without ear pain, with multiple silicone tip sizes included
- •Uses the same H2 Chip as AirPods Pro 2 for seamless iPhone pairing and intuitive controls
- •Sound quality is excellent with punchy bass and crisp, detailed vocals that stay clear even during workouts
- •Durable construction that holds up to intensive daily use over years
- •Compatible across Apple and Android ecosystems
Cons
- •Controls are poorly positioned and trigger accidentally during normal wear and adjustment
- •Uncomfortable fit with inadequate ear tip size options for some users
- •Heart rate monitor only works with specific third-party apps on Android; iPhone integration is limited
- •Significant quality downgrade compared to the original Powerbeats Pro generation—noise cancelling is really the only real improvement
- •Case feels cheap and flimsy with lack of dense, solid construction compared to competitors
- •Music leakage is noticeable to people sitting nearby
- •Requires proper ear tip fit and insertion technique to activate noise cancellation effectively; the Apple Ear Tip Fit Test is essential
