The Google Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd Gen) has a bunch of smart features that make it a solid choice for home security. It's priced around $179.99, according to the manufacturer's description. Here's what you can expect from this doorbell:
Smart Features
-
High-Resolution Video: It offers a video resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels, so you'll get a clear and detailed view of whoever's at your door.
-
Advanced Object Detection: It can differentiate between people, packages, animals, and vehicles. This means you get targeted notifications, which helps cut down on unnecessary alerts.
-
HDR Functionality: The HDR (High Dynamic Range) feature ensures the video remains clear in different lighting conditions, whether it's really bright or shady.
-
Night Vision: While the night vision isn't perfect, it does provide enough visibility to monitor your entrance even in low light.
-
Two-Way Audio: The two-way audio is pretty good, making it easy to talk to anyone at your door via the Google Home app. Super handy for giving instructions to delivery folks or chatting with visitors without opening the door.
-
Seamless Google Home Integration: Since it's part of the Google family, it works well with other Google Assistant devices. You can get alerts sent directly to your smart speaker, which can also act as your doorbell chime.
Installation and Subscription
- Easy Installation: If you're replacing an existing doorbell, it's pretty straightforward to set up. According to our research, many people found the installation simple, especially with Google's online resources.
Just make sure your doorbell wiring is up to spec, as you'll need a proper transformer to power it.
- Nest Aware Subscription: To get full features like 24/7 recording, you'll need a Nest Aware subscription.
But even without it, you still get up to three hours of event-based video history, which is enough for a lot of folks.
