When you're looking into the actual usable capacity of the Seagate Exos X22 22TB Hard Drive, it's helpful to know that the listed capacity isn't all usable. This is pretty common with most storage devices because of system overhead and formatting.
So, you can usually expect the usable space to be about 90-95% of what's advertised. This happens because the operating system counts bytes differently—kind of like a math thing that makes the space seem smaller.
For the Seagate Exos X22, even though it's called a 22TB drive, you’ll probably get around 20TB to 21TB of usable space. It's normal for any hard drive, so keep that in mind when you're planning out your storage needs.
Just a heads-up, if you’re getting the renewed version, our research shows mixed experiences. Some people had issues with the drives, like them arriving DOA (dead on arrival) or not lasting as long.
So, make sure it works with your system and meets your reliability needs if you're considering a renewed one.
So, while the advertised capacity is 22TB, the actual space you'll work with is a bit less. Just be sure your setup is compatible and that you're aware of the possible hiccups with renewed versions.
