Let's be real about the OnePlus 15 camera: it's good, but it's not the reason to buy this phone.

OnePlus made some interesting choices this year. They ended their partnership with Hasselblad and developed their own image processing called the "DetailMax Engine." They also made hardware changes that reviewers have called "a mixed bag."

The good news? For everyday photography, the OnePlus 15 delivers. Shooting your friends at brunch, capturing your dog being adorable, documenting your vacation. All of that looks great. Daytime photos are sharp with nice colors, and the camera app is quick and responsive.

The not-so-good news? When conditions get tricky, the OnePlus 15 doesn't keep pace with the best camera phones. Night photography results are inconsistent. The HDR processing sometimes flattens scenes in a way that looks unnatural. And if you loved the Hasselblad color science from previous OnePlus phones, you might miss it.

The hardware specs look solid on paper. The main sensor is actually bigger than before (1/1.4" vs 1/1.56"), and the telephoto now does 3.5x optical zoom. But reviewers have pointed out that some sensors are actually smaller this generation, and the apertures are narrower.

Here's the honest take: if you're a photography enthusiast who shoots in challenging conditions regularly, the iPhone 16 Pro or Galaxy S25 Ultra are better choices. But if you want a phone that takes great photos 90% of the time while also having incredible battery life and blazing performance, the OnePlus 15 camera won't let you down.

Think of it as a very capable B+ camera on an A+ phone overall.
