The LEGO Icons Optimus Prime 10302 set is pretty special because you can transform Optimus from a robot to a truck without having to take him apart. This is a nice nod to the original Transformers toys and it's something fans really appreciate.
According to our research, the transformation process involves some clever engineering with swivels, hinges, twists, and turns that let you switch between modes without rebuilding the whole thing. Some people find this process intricate and quite satisfying.
But, just a heads up, a few folks mentioned that some parts, like the waist area, might feel a bit flimsy during transformation and can come loose if you're not careful.
Also, while the design gets a lot of approval, there are a couple of drawbacks. For example, the model lacks knee joints, which limits articulation a bit. This choice seems intended to keep Optimus stable when in robot form, according to professional reviews.
For LEGO builders who enjoy Transformers, this set combines a bit of a challenge with a hefty dose of nostalgia. While you might need to handle it carefully during transformation, many find the building experience enjoyable and rewarding.
So, if you’re a fan of reliving those classic Optimus Prime moments, this set could be a great pick for you.
