FDA-Cleared Sleep Apnea Detection
The Galaxy Watch 8 has FDA De Novo authorization for sleep apnea screening:
- Screens for moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea
- Requires two nights of 4+ hour sleep within 10 days
- Available for adults 22 years and older
- Requires Samsung Galaxy phone for this feature
Bedtime Guidance
New feature that learns your circadian rhythm and suggests optimal sleep times based on your patterns, helping establish consistent sleep schedules.
Accuracy Compared to Clinical Testing
- Total sleep time: Accurate within 15-30 minutes typically
- Sleep stage detection: Good correlation with clinical polysomnography
- REM detection: Among the better smartwatch implementations
- Deep sleep: May overestimate slightly
Tips for Optimal Accuracy
- Wear the watch snugly but comfortably
- Allow 1-2 weeks for algorithm calibration to your patterns
- Charge before bed if battery below 40%
- Maintain consistent wear position night to night
The Galaxy Watch 8 offers some of the most comprehensive consumer sleep tracking available, particularly valuable for those interested in sleep apnea screening.
