The OnePlus 15 removes the iconic alert slider, replacing it with a programmable "Plus Key" button.
What Was the Alert Slider?
OnePlus phones featured a unique three-position hardware slider for years that allowed instant switching between:
- Ring mode
- Vibrate mode
- Silent mode
No screen interaction required. The slider worked without looking at your phone, similar to iPhone's mute switch but with three states.
The Plus Key Replacement
The Plus Key is a customizable button that performs programmable functions:
- Default function: Activates Mind Space AI (saves screenshots, voice recordings)
- Customizable options: Launch apps, trigger shortcuts, control volume
Why This Matters
What You Lose
- Instant, tactile sound profile switching
- Works without looking at phone
- Three distinct hardware states
- A signature OnePlus differentiator
What You Gain
- Programmable versatility
- Mind Space AI integration
- Customizable app launching
- Modern design approach
Managing Sound Profiles Without the Slider
- Volume buttons combined with on-screen controls
- Configure Plus Key for volume toggle
- Quick Settings tile for Do Not Disturb
- Scheduled sound profile automation
Bottom Line
If the alert slider was important to your OnePlus experience, this change may be disappointing. The Plus Key offers different utility but doesn't replicate the slider's instant, no-look sound control.
For users coming from other Android brands or those who never relied on the slider, the Plus Key's programmable functionality may prove useful. View OnePlus 15 specifications.
