If you're thinking about using the ASUS ZenWiFi AX Mini (XD5) with VPN services, here's what we found out. This system is geared towards home use, supposedly covering up to 5,000 square feet. Since it supports the AiMesh system, you can add more compatible routers to boost your network coverage.
As for VPN functionality, the manufacturer says it's equipped with features like VPN support, including ASUS' Instant Guard for safe internet use on unsecured public Wi-Fi.
But here's the catch: while it can handle VPN connections, setting it up might be a bit tricky and not as easy as using a dedicated VPN router. How straightforward it is really depends on your technical know-how and how you set up your network.
Our research suggests that while the main router can take on VPN tasks, how well it works can depend on how your nodes are placed and configured. Some folks have pointed out that the network doesn't always connect devices to the strongest signal, which might affect VPN performance if you're stuck on a further-out node.
The ASUS Router App is another factor. It's pretty handy for managing your network settings, including VPN, but some have run into occasional issues and limitations.
So, in a nutshell, the ASUS ZenWiFi AX Mini can work with VPN services, but you might need to fiddle with the settings a bit.
Keep your firmware updated, try out different node arrangements, and consider boosting your setup with extra AiMesh nodes if needed. If you're still having trouble, reaching out to ASUS support might help you get things tailored to your home's setup.
