The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is generally easy to clean, but it isn't self-cleaning, and a few habits make a real difference in how much time you spend wiping it down. Here's what the cleaning experience actually looks like day to day.

The interior. The interior cavity is non-stick coated, which means most food residue and grease wipe up with a damp cloth and a little dish soap once the oven has cooled. There's no dedicated self-clean cycle (Breville does not recommend running one even at high heat), so cleaning is manual. For baked-on residue, a paste of baking soda and water left for a few minutes before wiping handles most cases without abrasives. Do not use steel wool or harsh scrubbing pads — they will damage the non-stick coating and the interior light cover.

The crumb tray. A removable crumb tray sits at the very bottom of the oven and slides out from the front. This is the single most important part to clean regularly, because crumbs that accumulate on the tray will eventually scorch and produce smoke during high-temperature functions like Pizza or Air Fry. Pull the tray out after every few uses, dump the crumbs, and wipe it down. It is dishwasher-safe.

The racks and accessories. The oven ships with two wire racks, an enamel roasting pan, a 13-by-13-inch baking pan, an air fry basket, a broil rack, and a pizza pan. The wire racks and pizza pan are dishwasher-safe. The enamel roasting pan and the air fry basket are technically dishwasher-safe but Breville recommends hand-washing them to preserve the non-stick coating and finish — the dishwasher detergent and high heat dull both surfaces over time. A soak in warm soapy water plus a soft sponge handles even baked-on grease from air-fried wings or roasted vegetables.

The door and exterior. The interior of the glass door cleans up with the same baking soda paste or with a glass cleaner that's safe for tempered glass. The brushed stainless steel exterior shows fingerprints; a microfiber cloth and a stainless steel polish keep it looking new.

Habits that matter. Two small habits cut cleaning time dramatically. First, line the enamel pan with parchment or foil when roasting anything fatty (chicken thighs, bacon, salmon) — most of the mess ends up on the liner, not the pan. Second, wipe the interior with a damp cloth while it's still slightly warm (not hot) after cooking; grease comes off effortlessly compared to letting it cool fully and harden.

Compared to a full-size oven, the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is dramatically easier to clean — smaller surfaces, removable accessories, and no oven racks to wrestle out of the cavity.
