The GECKO Kalimba 17 Keys Thumb Piano seems to be a popular pick for beginners, with its rich sound and durability. It's made from mahogany and steel, and the manufacturer describes it as including accessories like a protective case, tuning hammer, and instructional guide, which definitely helps when you're just starting out.
Now, about those high notes—our research points out that some people have found the higher-pitched keys to be a bit muted or requiring more pressure to sound cleanly. This might be a deal-breaker if you're planning to play a lot of high-note-heavy music, and some folks have even returned it because of this issue.
Overall, though, the feedback is mostly positive. Many appreciate the clear sound and how easy it is to get started with the extra goodies included. It seems to be especially great for casual playing or for those new to the kalimba.
There is a suggestion that the user manual could be a bit more helpful, especially for total beginners.
But if you're looking for a hassle-free start with the kalimba and aren't too focused on the highest notes, this could be a nice fit for you.
