Pros
- •Extremely efficient and smooth performance for work, reading, and browsing, delivering a highly satisfying overall experience.
- •Lightweight, compact, and slim design makes it ideal for travel, daily use, and perfect for college students or anyone needing portability.
- •Excellent build quality featuring a bright, gorgeous 12" touchscreen with a 90Hz refresh rate that offers smooth visuals.
- •Runs Windows 11 Copilot+, providing full desktop flexibility and functionality akin to a traditional PC.
- •Built-in kickstand enhances usability on the go, with an onscreen keyboard that can split for easier typing when held.
- •Snapdragon X Plus (8-Core) processor runs cool under normal use, offering seamless x86 app compatibility through a software layer.
- •Long battery life supports extended productivity without frequent charging.
- •Keyboard accessory (sold separately) works well and complements the device for laptop-style use.
- •Improved screen refresh and WiFi speed compared to previous Surface Pro X models.
- •Supports low latency connections to external devices (e.g., music pianos) which is great for specialized uses like music learning.
Cons
- •Keyboard is not included and must be purchased separately to fully utilize the 2-in-1 functionality.
- •Tablet mode in Windows 11 is poorly optimized with tiny UI elements, limited customization, and no virtual gamepad, making it less tablet-friendly.
- •App startup can sometimes be sluggish despite generally smooth performance.
- •Limited selection of touch-optimized apps and games in the Windows Store, especially after Android app support ended, reducing tablet usability.
- •Some users report frequent overheating issues under intensive tasks, raising concerns about device safety and comfort.
- •Wi-Fi connection stability issues have been noted, requiring frequent adapter restarts or router reboots, which can be frustrating.
- •Troubleshooting support is reportedly unhelpful, leaving some performance and connectivity problems unresolved.
- •No removable storage option, meaning users must either buy higher capacity models upfront or rely on external SSDs.
- •The device can feel a bit large for comfortable typing without the keyboard accessory, making it less ideal for extended typing on the go.
Bottom Line
The Microsoft Surface Pro 2-in-1 (2025) is a sleek, powerful, and portable Windows 11 device ideal for users who need full desktop capabilities in a tablet form factor—especially travelers and college students. However, if you want a smooth tablet experience with a rich library of touch-optimized apps or gaming, this may not be your best pick due to Windows 11’s clunky tablet mode and app limitations. It also requires buying a keyboard separately to unlock its full 2-in-1 potential. If you're looking for a similar device but want a more polished tablet experience or fewer connectivity hassles, consider waiting for updates or exploring other Surface models or premium 2-in-1 laptops with better tablet mode support.
