Pros
- •Offers exceptionally strong suction and deep cleaning performance on carpets and area rugs, including tough dirt, grime, and odors such as pet urine and smoke.
- •Produces very dirty extracted water even on carpets that are regularly vacuumed, confirming thorough cleaning.
- •Easy to use with convenient features like an attached hose that automatically engages and disengages and multiple cleaning heads.
- •The dry-only mode helps extract remaining dirt after deep cleaning with water, enhancing overall cleanliness.
- •Components and attachments easily disassemble and clean, including a self-cleaning feature that reduces mold and odors.
- •Collects hair effectively into a trap, preventing clumping on the floor during use.
- •Compact size makes it ideal for quick cleanups and smaller areas without hassle or heavy lifting.
- •Performs well on difficult carpet types like Berber, delivering near-professional results.
- •User-friendly design includes a spot on top of the vacuum dedicated to hose cleaning.
Cons
- •Small tanks for clean and dirty water require frequent emptying, which can be inconvenient for cleaning larger areas.
- •Requires pre-vacuuming as it does not pick up loose debris like hair or crumbs on its own.
- •Only offers a single “deep clean” mode without options for lighter or standard cleaning.
- •Controls for the handheld stain cleaner can be somewhat confusing, particularly toggling between spraying and drying.
- •The power-off button has a noticeable delay that can cause confusion when turning the machine off.
- •Dirt may clump in the brushroll if the machine is not cleaned thoroughly between uses, requiring slow dry passes to clear.
- •Some serious safety concerns reported, including smoke and burning smells upon first use, defective wiring, and circuit breaker tripping, making the product unusable for affected customers.
- •The product may not be plug compatible in some regions (e.g., UAE, Germany), requiring adapters.
- •Replacement solutions and spare parts have limited availability in some markets like Mexico.
Bottom Line
The Shark CarpetXpert EX151 is a powerful and effective carpet cleaner that excels at deep-cleaning, pet odor removal, and tackling tough grime with strong suction and quick drying times. Its compact size and thoughtful features like hose cleaning and a dry-only mode make it a convenient choice for smaller homes or frequent quick cleanups. However, potential buyers should be aware of some usability quirks, smaller water tanks, and reported electrical safety issues from a portion of users, which could be a dealbreaker depending on your region or how you plan to use it. If safety concerns or tank size are major issues for you, consider checking other models or brands that offer larger tanks or clearer mode options.
