- •Stylish powder-coated "antique silver" finish that looks durable and visually appealing.
- •Provides ample flying and moving space for multiple small birds or 1-2 medium birds like conures or cockatiels.
- •Large front and multiple access doors make cleaning and bird interaction easier.
- •Spring-loaded doors allow convenient access to food dishes and cage interior.
- •Bottom tray lock prevents accidental sliding and is easy to remove with a swing-up feature.
- •Plastic tray is tougher and more durable than typical bird cage trays.
- •Bottom shelf with closer wire spacing is more practical compared to usual wider grids.
- •Cage frame’s square tubular steel with wire channels allows for easier breakdown for cleaning or moving.
- •Smooth-rolling wheels on the stand add good mobility around the house.
- •Once fully assembled, the cage feels sturdy despite initial flimsy impressions during assembly.
Cons
- •Assembly is notoriously difficult, especially the stand and top sections, often requiring two people, drilling, and tools beyond those provided.
- •Instructions are poorly illustrated with tiny, unclear pictures, making the process frustrating.
- •Door latches and spring-loaded doors lack secure closure; birds can sometimes open them, and they may get stuck or accidentally escape.
- •Some birds might bend the wires or bars, so it’s not suitable for large or particularly strong birds.
- •Included perches are often deemed too thick or slippery for smaller birds and may require replacement.
- •Four included food dishes are small, uncovered, and fit only on door bars, which some find impractical.
- •Wheels are light-duty and suitable mostly for moving light loads on the bottom shelf.
- •The cage may rust if exposed to moisture due to the powder-coated steel frame and wire channels.
- •Some users reported poor build quality compared to previous Prevue models, especially regarding door latch durability and feeder compatibility.
- •The top mesh might not hold a cat’s weight without extra reinforcement, which could be a concern for multi-pet homes.
Bottom Line
The Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Flight Cage F040 offers excellent space and a stylish look ideal for small to medium birds needing room to fly and play. However, assembly is a true test of patience—expect to need two people and some DIY skills, along with additional tools like drill bits and zip ties to make it manageable. Door security is a concern for clever birds, so be ready to add extra locks or clips. If you want a cage with easier assembly or more secure latches, you might want to explore other top-rated cages, but if roomy style and mobility on wheels are your top priorities with some willingness to tweak on your end, this is a solid choice.
