Pros
- •Noise cancelling is highly effective, blocking out loud background noise so callers hear your voice clearly, even in extreme environments like open-top cars on the motorway.
- •Delivers clear audio for phone calls, making it suitable for working from home or the office.
- •Comfortable to wear, with a lightweight, sleek design and multiple ear tip sizes (small, medium, large) to help with fit.
- •Easy setup and user-friendly operation, including automatic call answering when removed from the pocket.
- •Can connect to up to 8 Bluetooth devices with 2 simultaneous connections, offering versatile device pairing.
- •Battery life supports about 5 hours of continuous use, with an optional charging case providing two additional full charges for on-the-go power.
- •Durable construction for everyday use, though longevity concerns exist beyond the warranty period.
- •Convenient charging via micro USB and the updated charging case improves reliability compared to older models.
- •Integrates well with iPhones and works smoothly with home computers and laptops.
- •Customer support, while sometimes slow, is generally helpful during the warranty period.
Cons
- •Bluetooth connectivity is unreliable for some users, with frequent call drops and difficulty maintaining stable connections, especially on PCs requiring a dongle.
- •Firmware smart sensors can cause inconsistent audio routing, especially on iOS devices, requiring manual Bluetooth audio adjustments in settings.
- •Earpiece fit can feel loose and sits more in the concha than the ear canal, reducing passive noise blocking and sometimes causing volume fluctuations or allowing external noise in.
- •Over-the-ear hook design does not comfortably accommodate eyeglasses or sunglasses.
- •Calls do not always transfer automatically to the headset when starting, causing brief delays or dropped audio at call initiation.
- •Wind noise can come through during outdoor calls, slightly reducing clarity in windy environments.
- •Battery life claims are somewhat optimistic; some users report quick battery drain even when powered off.
- •Build quality degrades after 1-2 years, particularly microphone failure impacting noise cancelling, along with breakage issues on the earpiece and stem.
- •Customer service has declined recently with slow response times and limited support post-warranty.
- •Software updates are unavailable, leaving older units unsupported and potentially reducing overall experience over time.
Bottom Line
The Plantronics Voyager 5200 Wireless Bluetooth Headset shines with its *top-notch noise cancelling* and *clear voice call quality* that suits busy or noisy environments, along with *comfortable, versatile wearing options* and *convenient multi-device connectivity*. However, if you’re planning to rely on stable Bluetooth connections for daily heavy use, especially on PCs or in complex multi-device setups, you might run into frustrating glitches and durability concerns after a couple of years. The declining customer service and lack of software updates may leave you on your own post-warranty. If these sound like dealbreakers, consider looking at other Plantronics or Poly headsets with improved firmware stability and stronger build, or even competing brands with higher durability ratings.
