- •Easy to install, making setup straightforward for users.
- •Dogs quickly adapt and enjoy using the door.
- •Aluminum frame is more durable compared to previous plastic pet doors.
- •Sturdy latch mechanism that, when effective, prevents air leakage.
Cons
- •Screws and bolts are of poor quality; plastic components break easily during installation.
- •Flap does not seal properly, allowing air, bugs, and rainwater to enter; requires consistent use of the closing panel.
- •Weak magnets fail to close the door effectively, especially in breezy conditions.
- •Additional sealing materials are necessary to prevent air leakage, which increases overall costs.
- •The flap hangs above the magnet, exacerbating the sealing issues and leading to energy loss.
- •Considered overpriced relative to the quality and modifications needed for proper installation.
- •Customer service is reportedly unhelpful in addressing issues.
Bottom Line
The PetSafe Freedom Aluminum Pet Door offers easy installation and a durable frame, but its performance and sealing issues have left many users disappointed. Frequent modifications and use of additional materials make it less cost-effective. Consider looking into alternative options that provide stronger magnetic closure and better sealing to meet your pet door needs.
