Cons
- •The TV’s extremely thin backside raises concerns about durability and the potential for damage.
- •Picture adjustment via AI can be unconventional and difficult to fine-tune to personal preferences.
- •When viewed from certain side angles, the thin design may appear warped or distorted.
- •The mute function is poorly implemented: no quick mute button press, requiring holding volume down, or complicated voice commands via Alexa.
- •Alexa voice muting is unreliable and sometimes requires multiple attempts.
- •The remote control’s mute symbol is misleading since pressing volume buttons does not mute the TV.
- •The accompanying phone app demands a paid subscription and complicated setup for muting control.
- •Customer support and return/refund policies appear confusing and unsatisfactory for some users.
- •Some users feel LG’s design decisions do not align well with practical needs, especially for sports fans who want quick muting options.
- •Wall mounting the large TV may require help and some practical skill.
Bottom Line
The LG 86QNED85AUA is a powerhouse when it comes to picture and sound quality, delivering vivid colors and impressive AI-enhanced clarity that make large-screen viewing truly immersive. However, its ultra-thin design raises durability questions, and the awkward mute controls could prove frustrating for everyday use, especially if you frequently watch sports or live TV. If easy muting and rugged build are priorities, you might want to consider other flagship models with more straightforward audio controls or a thicker chassis. Still, for those who crave cutting-edge image quality with smart features like Alexa built-in and AI upscaling, this LG model is a compelling choice.
