Pros
- •Works exceptionally well as a drywall primer and stain blocker, often covering tough stains like smoke, grease, and tobacco in one or two coats.
- •Completely eliminates strong pet urine and feces odors, sealing in unpleasant smells effectively.
- •Dries quickly, typically within 30 minutes, which speeds up painting projects.
- •Leaves a white matte finish that can be painted over smoothly or left as a sealed surface.
- •Easy cleanup with just water or mild soap and features low odor, making it comfortable to use indoors.
- •Prevents mold growth in damp environments such as bathrooms and subflooring, supporting long-term moisture control.
- •Provides professional-quality results, trusted by contractors and homeowners alike.
- •Smooth application with good spreadability, works well on a variety of surfaces including textured popcorn ceilings, plaster, lath walls, and exterior siding.
- •Creates a reliable base for topcoats, preventing stains and odors from bleeding through and improving paint adhesion.
- •Offers durable protection and long-lasting performance for both interior and exterior uses.
Cons
- •Requires multiple coats (usually 2-3) for best coverage and to fully eliminate stubborn odors or dark stains.
- •Some users noted that while it performs very well, it may not be a one-coat miracle for every problem surface.
- •A few reports of customer service interactions being less than helpful or attentive when purchasing, though this is unrelated to the product itself.
Bottom Line
If you need a versatile, fast-drying primer that blocks stains and odors effectively across multiple surfaces—including walls, ceilings, floors, and exterior siding—KILZ 2 Multi-Surface Latex Primer/Sealer is a solid choice. It's especially strong for covering smoke, pet odors, and mold-prone areas, making it a favorite for renovation and restoration projects. Just keep in mind that achieving full coverage and smell elimination often means applying two to three coats. If you want a primer specifically for heavy smoke or odor problems with faster one-coat coverage, you might also explore specialized primers, but KILZ 2 is a reliable all-around performer worth considering.
