- •FlowState stabilization works exceptionally well, delivering smooth, professional-looking footage even in action-packed scenes.
- •Modular design allows easy switching between different camera units, including a 360-degree capture option, making it highly versatile.
- •Built solidly with a sturdy, waterproof design that holds up well in adventurous and travel settings.
- •Three onboard microphones provide excellent sound quality that complements the sharp video.
- •AI editing features and compatibility with editing software like Resolve Studio help streamline post-production significantly.
- •Responsive customer service quickly resolved early issues such as lens problems.
- •The camera offers superior image quality compared to many smaller action cameras on the market.
- •The ability to access and control the camera easily via phone apps makes using it convenient on the go.
- •Latest tech integration and modularity allow a tailored experience depending on shooting needs.
Cons
- •Firmware updates introduced an irritating 29-minute recording limit per video segment (due to EU regulations), complicating the editing process. Although possible, rolling back firmware sacrifices future updates.
- •The SD card cover is poorly secured and can easily fall off, which is frustrating for active use.
- •The Android app causes phones to lose internet connection unless the app is used actively as a proxy, limiting multitasking.
- •PC app is functional but lacks user-friendly features and doesn't leverage GPU acceleration, meaning slower video rendering.
- •The camera is slightly larger than many counterparts, which might be a consideration for those wanting the smallest setup.
- •The device is prone to overheating during extended use, potentially causing interruptions.
- •Some users found performance disappointing in various environments, noting it may be better suited for simpler use cases.
- •Software reliability and user experience lag behind other major brands, which can be frustrating for power users.
- •Recording automatically restarts after 29 minutes due to firmware limits, which may disrupt continuous shooting needs.
- •A few users expressed that despite the camera's features, overall usability and performance did not meet their expectations.
Bottom Line
The Insta360 ONE RS 4K Edition is a powerhouse for those who want impressive image quality and versatile modularity wrapped in a solid, well-built action camera. Its FlowState stabilization and superior audio set it apart in the action camera crowd, while AI editing and phone app control add convenience. However, the 29-minute video segment limit, overheating issues, and some software quirks suggest it’s best for users who prioritize advanced features and are willing to manage some technical trade-offs. If you want a seamless software experience coupled with equally strong hardware, considering alternatives from other brands may be worth your time. Otherwise, this camera is a great pick for adventurous multi-mode shooting with pro-level results.
