Pros

•Features the powerful Google Tensor G3 chip that delivers smooth multitasking and fast app performance.
•Vibrant 6.2-inch OLED display with rich colors, deep blacks, and a fast 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling.
•Exceptional camera quality, especially in low light and portrait modes, capturing clear and natural photos.
•AI-powered photo editing tools simplify photo adjustments and offer advanced features like Magic Eraser and Audio Magic Eraser.
•Battery life comfortably lasts a full day under heavy use, with quick charging and Extreme Battery Saver mode extending usage up to 72 hours.
•Premium, sleek design with a matte aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus back, offering both style and durability.
•IP68 water and dust resistance for reliable all-around device protection.
•Integrated Google AI and smart assistant features improve daily usability, including Circle to Search and personal safety functions.
•Long-term software support with 7 years of security updates and feature drops helps future-proof the device.
•Good speaker quality with clear audio that pairs well with wireless devices.

Cons

•Screen flickers between shades of grey when dark mode is active and the screen is touched, caused by the adaptive refresh rate switching between 60 Hz and 120 Hz.
•Disabling the 120 Hz smooth display setting stops flickering but removes the benefits of high refresh rate.
•Camera app switching is laggy, with brief flashes and color glitches.
•Multiple software updates can fail or require extensive setup, sometimes needing a factory reset.
•Phone runs uncomfortably hot during use, especially without a protective case.
•Fingerprint sensor is unreliable, failing about 70% of the time even after resets, making unlocking frustrating.
•Extended unlock features and face recognition can be inconsistent and difficult to rely on.
•Multitasking can be unstable, with frequent app freezes and crashes reported, notably in apps like Maps and Chrome.
•Device is locked by software to prevent 5G connectivity outside specific regions, limiting international use significantly.
•No charging block included in the box, and cable compatibility issues may limit convenience.
•Android Auto connectivity is inconsistent with occasional random disconnections.
•Notifications and call handling have issues, such as the phone not ringing despite incoming calls and voicemails.

Bottom Line

The Google Pixel 8 5G offers a premium design, powerful performance, and a top-tier camera system enhanced by intuitive Google AI features, making it a solid choice for photography enthusiasts and daily users who want seamless integration with Google services. However, several software and hardware quirks—especially screen flickering, fingerprint sensor unreliability, overheating, and restrictive 5G connectivity limitations—may dampen the overall experience for power users or international travelers. If flawless multitasking and global 5G access are deal-breakers, you might want to consider other recent flagship smartphones, but for those embedded in the Google ecosystem seeking advanced photo capabilities and long-term updates, the Pixel 8 remains a compelling option.
