- •Fits and works perfectly with vintage 1980’s Casablanca ceiling fans, effectively restoring older, hard-to-find models.
- •Installation is quick and straightforward, typically taking less than 15 minutes by a professional.
- •Wired wall switch is convenient for those who prefer a fixed control or tend to lose handheld remotes.
- •Provides reliable operation once properly paired, offering satisfaction in fan and light control.
- •Clean and attractive wall installation supporting standard Decora wall plates for a polished look.
- •Batteries in the remote have a long life, reducing hassle despite requiring occasional replacement.
- •Programming allows individual control of multiple fans, useful in homes with more than one Casablanca fan.
- •Quality feels substantial and robust, comparable to well-known switch brands rather than cheap plastic.
- •Compatible with Hunter fans after the Hunter-Casablanca merger, offering broader usability.
Cons
- •The wall control sometimes causes the fan to perform incorrect or random functions, like reversing direction when trying to turn on the light.
- •Conflict between the wall control and handheld remote often results in malfunction or failure to operate the fan/light correctly.
- •Programming the remote and wall control can be complicated, requiring multiple attempts and causing user frustration.
- •The proprietary remote connection limits compatibility compared to more universal RF remotes from other brands.
- •Batteries are installed inside the remote unit fixed to the wall, meaning removal is needed for replacement, which some find inconvenient.
- •Lack of detailed, clear online manuals complicates setup; customer support often directs users to call for help.
- •The remote and wall control system is reported less reliable than popular Hunter remotes or other market alternatives.
- •Some users experienced no improvement or control despite proper installation, leading to product returns.
- •Programming may be lost after unexpected power outages, causing additional setup hassle.
- •The small handheld remote is easy to misplace and lacks a convenient mounting bracket or holder.
Bottom Line
If you’re looking to revive a vintage 1980’s Casablanca ceiling fan and want a wall remote that fits the original system, the Casablanca 99195 offers a solid, aesthetically clean solution with reasonable battery life and decent build quality. That said, the setup can be fiddly, and the dual control system (wall and handheld remote) isn’t always reliable, sometimes causing erratic fan behavior. If you prioritize seamless, hassle-free operation and broader compatibility, you might want to consider alternatives like Hunter’s fan remotes, which have a stronger reputation for reliability and easier programming. For a remote specifically designed for vintage Casablanca fans but with better support and user experience, keep an eye out for compatible Hunter remotes or other universal fan remote systems known for stability and easier pairing.
