Cons
- •Battery performance is unreliable—multiple reviewers reported the device dying unexpectedly even when displaying 20% charge, with some experiencing failure after just 3-4 hours of use
- •Power and light control buttons require extended or forceful pressing (approximately 10 seconds), making operation unnecessarily frustrating
- •Lacks an instruction manual or documentation, leaving users to figure things out on their own
- •Toy-like aesthetic due to its water-resistant design may not appeal to those seeking a more premium appearance
- •Stereo sound requires purchasing a second unit (sold separately), which increases the overall cost
- •Bass could be slightly deeper to truly satisfy bass-heavy music enthusiasts
Bottom Line
The Altec Lansing Baby Boom XL excels as a portable, waterproof speaker that delivers genuinely impressive sound quality for its size and price—making it fantastic for showers, pool parties, and outdoor use. However, the unreliable battery that dies unexpectedly and frustrating button controls are legitimate concerns that could significantly impact your experience. If you're primarily using this for casual listening in wet environments and can live with potential battery quirks, it's a solid buy. But if you need dependable battery life and smooth operation, you might want to weigh your options carefully before committing.
