๐งพ How to Scan a Receipt and Get Money Back When Prices Drop
Scan a store receipt and ShopSavvy watches everything you bought, then shows you how to claim the difference when a store lowers its price.

Receipt scanning is in the latest ShopSavvy app for iPhone, iPad and Android. If you don't see it, update the app.
Scan a store receipt and ShopSavvy finds each product you bought, watches its price and tells you when it gets cheaper. If the price drops while the store still lets you claim the difference, you see how much you can get back, how many days are left and the store's steps.
How to Scan a Receipt
- Open the Scan tab.
- Point the camera at the receipt. When ShopSavvy recognizes it, tap Scan receipt. You can also tap Receipt in the scanner at any time.
- Scan the receipt with the camera, or tap Choose from Photos to use photos you already took (up to 6 photos of one receipt, top first). For a long receipt, scan it in parts from the top: the scanner keeps adding pages.
- The first time, ShopSavvy explains what happens to your receipt. Continue when you're ready.
- Wait a few seconds while ShopSavvy reads your receipt, finds the products and checks prices.
Check Your Items
- Each line shows the product we matched and what you paid.
- For items we weren't sure about, ShopSavvy asks Is this right? Confirm the product, pick another, or mark the line as not a product. Your answers make the next scan better.
- Totals match means the lines we read add up to the receipt's total. If you see Some lines may be off, a line may be missing or misread, so check the items. Items on a receipt like that aren't watched until you confirm them.
- Watch all is on for the items we found. Turn off any item you don't want to watch.
Get Money Back When a Price Drops
- Your receipts are under From your receipts in the Watching tab. Items you bought show where and when you bought them and what you paid.
- When a price drops, the item shows how much it dropped since you bought it. If the store allows a price adjustment, you also see the adjustment window and the days left to claim.
- Open the receipt, then the item, to see Get your money back: how much the store lowered the price, the date to claim by, and the store's steps.
- Follow the steps before the deadline, usually with your receipt at the store's customer service desk or by contacting the store.
If you have price alerts turned on, ShopSavvy also sends a notification when something you bought gets cheaper inside the store's window.
Stores With a Price-Adjustment Window
These stores say they'll refund the difference if their own price drops within a set time after you buy. Policies change, so check with the store before you rely on them. Each policy was read from the store's own policy page on 2026-11-01, and every store has exclusions (clearance, special sales events, marketplace sellers and more): the policy link has the details.

IKEA gives 90-day price protection only to members of its loyalty program (see its policy). A receipt can't show that you're a member, so ShopSavvy doesn't show a countdown for it.
Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate & Barrel, Walmart and Williams Sonoma say they don't refund the difference when their own price drops after you buy. For these stores, and any store not listed above, ShopSavvy still watches what you bought and tells you when it gets cheaper, but doesn't show a claim window.
Your Privacy
- Card numbers, member numbers and names are removed before anything from your receipt is stored.
- The photo is deleted once your receipt has been read. If a receipt needs to be read again (for example, its lines don't add up), its photo is kept for up to 30 days, then deleted.
- Only you can see your receipts. The in-store prices on them help everyone see real store prices, but they're shared without anything that points to you, and only once two receipts agree.
- To delete a receipt, open it and tap Delete Receipt. You can keep watching what you bought or stop watching it too. Deleting your account deletes all of your receipts.
The full details are in the privacy notice.
Tips
- Lay the receipt flat on a dark surface, in good light, and avoid shadows.
- Faded receipts are hard to read, so scan them soon after you shop.
- Items sold by weight, like loose produce, don't get price-drop or money-back alerts, because a price per pound can't be compared with a packaged price.
- If ShopSavvy picked the wrong product, open the item and choose the right one.
