What a lookup returns

What is the difference between Go-UPC and the ShopSavvy Data API?

Go-UPC is a barcode lookup API: send a UPC, EAN or ISBN and get the product name, image, description and other details, from a database it says holds over 500 million products with strong international coverage. ShopSavvy returns the product record too, but its focus is the offers attached to it: which retailers sell it, at what price, in what condition, and when that was last seen.

Prices and history

Does Go-UPC return prices?

Its API plans page does not list prices, price history or monitoring. ShopSavvy returns timestamped offers and keeps hundreds of millions of price observations, price history back to 2011, dense from 2019, with scheduled re-checks hourly, daily or weekly.

Pricing at a sample volume

What do 5,000 barcode lookups a month cost?

Go-UPC's Developer plan is $74.95 a month for 5,000 requests. On ShopSavvy a product lookup costs 1 credit per product found (misses are free), so 5,000 lookups need the Professional plan at $199 a month for 10,000 credits, which also covers some offer calls. For details-only lookups at that volume Go-UPC is cheaper; ShopSavvy's price includes prices and history. Checked 2026-10-12.

Who should choose Go-UPC

Pick Go-UPC for barcode-to-product-details at a flat price, especially for international products, nutrition and food apps, books and media, and inventory tools where price is not the point.

  • Barcode lookups (UPC, EAN, ISBN) return product name, image and description, with international coverage the vendor emphasises.
  • Simple bearer-token REST call per code.
  • Phone support on the Startup plan and above.

Switching from Go-UPC

Barcodes carry over unchanged; map the response fields and add offer calls where you want prices.

  1. Start a 14-day Starter trial and create a key.
  2. Replace GET /api/v1/code/<barcode> with GET /v1/products?ids=<barcode> (up to 100 per request).
  3. Add GET /v1/products/offers?ids=… where you need prices, and the history endpoint where you need charts.

More questions

Does ShopSavvy cover non-US barcodes?

It looks up any barcode in its catalog, but offers are returned in US dollars, so prices come from retailers selling in USD.

How we compared

We compared what a developer gets from one call: which identifiers it accepts, which retailers' prices come back, how much history is available, how prices stay fresh, what a stated monthly volume costs, and how quickly you can integrate. ShopSavvy figures come from our documentation and from production measurements dated 2026-10-11. Go-UPC facts come from its public pages, read on the dates below; where its own page could not be read we cite a third-party listing and say so. We make ShopSavvy, so weigh this page accordingly, and check the sources yourself.
