If you're considering the Aeotec Water Sensor 7 Pro and wondering about its compatibility with SmartThings, here's what we found.
This sensor, model ZWA019, focuses mainly on working with Z-Wave hubs. So, you’ll need a Z-Wave hub to get notifications, but once you have that setup, it works smoothly with SmartThings. You can set it up to send alerts straight to your smartphone or other smart devices, which is pretty handy for keeping an eye on things around the house, as long as your internet connection is up.
Our research shows that the sensor fits well with Z-Wave ecosystems, though it doesn’t include a built-in audible alarm. Some people might expect this feature, but it typically sends alerts to your phone or even smart speakers when linked with platforms like SmartThings or Hubitat.
So, how you get alerts really depends on how you have your smart home configured and if your network is in good standing.
Performance-wise, it seems to be a solid option for folks already using or planning on using Z-Wave tech. It's often praised for being sensitive to water, which makes it reliable for quickly picking up on leaks. Just keep in mind, if your internet cuts out, alert notifications might be affected unless you have some sort of local backup set up.
If you’re specifically after a water sensor with its own audible alarm, there are other products you might want to check out that offer this feature independently of needing a smart hub.
But if you have a smart home setup that’s already deep into Z-Wave and you're okay with managing alerts through a hub, the Aeotec Water Sensor 7 Pro could be a nice addition, integrating well with systems like SmartThings.
