The KitchenAid KSMSFTA Sifter + Scale Attachment comes with a battery-operated digital scale that really helps with precise ingredient measurements, which is a big plus for baking. As per the manufacturer's product description, it uses your stand mixer for sifting, but you'll need batteries for the scale part.
Our research suggests that a lot of people, including baking pros, find the scale pretty accurate. It’s a popular choice among those who bake a lot. One neat feature is that you can actually use the scale separately on your countertop, thanks to the included scale plate. That definitely adds some flexibility for different tasks in the kitchen.
The scale is pretty user-friendly, too. It has a display that's easy to read and a tare function, which means you can zero it out between adding different ingredients. This makes it simpler to manage recipes that require precise amounts.
That said, it’s not perfect. A small number of people have mentioned issues with the scale not turning on. From what we've found, this can happen if substances like flour or sugar get into it and cause problems.
In these cases, it might help to check for any leftovers in the battery compartment and to make sure the batteries are put in correctly. Keeping the scale clean can also help avoid these hiccups.
If getting exact measurements is important for your baking – especially for things like pastries where precision matters – this attachment seems like a solid bet. With a little care, it should give you reliable measurements and make your baking process smoother.
