Honestly, "best" depends entirely on what you care about. Are you clumsy? Do you hate bulk? Is your phone an accessory? Let me break it down.
If You Drop Your Phone Constantly
Get something rugged. Yes, it'll add bulk. But your phone will survive.
- OtterBox Defender: The gold standard of protection. Chunky, but it works.
- UAG Monarch: Looks cooler than OtterBox, still extremely protective.
- Spigen Tough Armor: More reasonable size while still being legitimately protective.
If You Want Protection Without the Bulk
This is where most people should be looking:
- Apple's Silicone Case: Pricey, but fits perfectly and feels great.
- Spigen MagArmor: Affordable, slim, MagSafe works perfectly.
- ESR MagSafe cases: Good value, lots of style options.
If You Hate Cases
I get it. You bought this beautiful phone and don't want to hide it.
- Totallee Thin: Barely know it's there. Adds scratch protection, not much else.
- PEEL: Basically a skin that adds grip.
Warning: These won't protect against drops. If you go this route, AppleCare+ exists for a reason.
If You Want Something That Looks Good
- Apple Leather Case: Ages nicely, develops character over time.
- Nomad Modern Leather: Beautiful Horween leather, works with MagSafe.
Important Notes for 17 Pro Max
Old cases won't fit. The camera setup is different. Don't try to use your 16 Pro Max case.
The aluminum scratches. Caseless users will see marks within a few weeks, especially on Orange or Blue.
MagSafe matters. If you use wireless charging or accessories, make sure your case supports it.
The Bottom Line
For most people: Apple Silicone Case or Spigen MagArmor. Protection, MagSafe, reasonable price. Done.
