The TCL 65" Class 4-Series 4K UHD HDR Smart Google TV (65S446) has plenty of fans thanks to its reasonable price and decent performance for everyday use. But, it's not perfect.
According to the manufacturer's product description, it has a 60Hz refresh rate—fine for regular TV-watching and casual gaming but not ideal if you're really into gaming. It doesn't have advanced features like HDMI 2.1 or Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), which are must-haves if you want to get the best out of next-gen consoles like the PS5 or Xbox Series X. Without these, you won’t get those smoother frame rates and quicker responsiveness that serious gamers crave.
Another downside, according to our research, is the lack of local dimming. Local dimming can make a big difference in picture quality, especially during darker scenes, and its absence might be noticeable if you often watch TV or play games in low-light settings. Higher-end models usually have this feature, so if high-end picture performance is important to you, this could be a sticking point.
From our data, people seem mostly happy with the TV for general streaming and casual use. It offers solid picture quality and the smart features are pretty user-friendly, especially with Google TV built-in, which gives you access to a bunch of apps and services right away.
However, if gaming is your main thing, the 60Hz refresh rate might be a letdown. It can make fast action scenes in games look a bit choppy compared to TVs with higher refresh rates.
So, in a nutshell, the TCL 65S446 is a solid option for streaming and regular TV-watching, thanks to its affordability and good performance in those areas. But if you're really into gaming, the lack of HDMI 2.1, VRR, and local dimming, combined with the 60Hz refresh rate, might leave you wanting more.
