Yep, the Western Digital Elements Desktop External Hard Drive works with Mac computers, even your iMac.
The manufacturer mentions that it comes pre-formatted with NTFS for Windows, but don’t worry—you can easily reformat it to work with Mac's file system. Once that's done, it'll work smoothly with your iMac's OS X.
As for connectivity, this drive can hook up through both USB 2.0 and 3.0. Since your 2008 Mac probably has USB 2.0 ports, it'll connect just fine.
Just keep in mind that with USB 2.0, transfer speeds might be slower compared to USB 3.0, which newer machines feature. This might mean transfers, especially large ones, take a bit longer, but for regular backups or everyday storage tasks, it shouldn't be an issue.
From what we found, lots of folks have used this drive with their Macs with great success. It's noted for being reliable and easy to use—really handy if you're managing a large photo library or need a solid data backup.
Just make sure you reformat it correctly to work with Mac, and that part is usually pretty simple.
So, with the right reformat and setup, this Western Digital hard drive should be a good fit for boosting storage or backup for your iMac.
Double-check that your OS version supports these changes, though. Let me know if you have more questions or need help with the reformatting!
