Good news: the iPhone 17 Pro Max charges faster than any previous iPhone. Less good news: Apple didn't include the charger you need to make that happen.

The Numbers You Care About

Wired charging maxes out at 40W now:

• 0 to 50% in about 20 minutes
• 0 to 60% in about 30 minutes
• Full charge in roughly 1 hour 45 minutes

That's a solid improvement from the 16 Pro Max, which topped out at 30W.

MagSafe wireless hits 25W—the fastest iPhone wireless charging ever. You need a MagSafe charger plus at least a 30W adapter to hit max speed.

What's in the Box (and What's Not)

Apple includes a USB-C cable. That's it.

No power adapter. No MagSafe charger. You'll need to buy these separately, which is annoying at this price point, but here we are.

What I Actually Recommend

For fastest charging: Get a 40W or higher USB-C adapter. Apple makes one, but quality third-party options from Anker, Belkin, or others work just as well and often cost less.

For convenient wireless: A MagSafe charger paired with at least a 30W adapter. The ESR 3-in-1 charging stations are great if you also have an Apple Watch and AirPods.

For travel: A compact GaN charger with multiple ports. One charger for all your devices.

Pro Tip

The vapor chamber cooling in the 17 Pro Max actually helps with charging too. Previous iPhones would sometimes slow charging when they got warm—this one stays cooler and maintains speed better.

Also: if you have a thick case, it might interfere with MagSafe alignment and slow wireless charging. Slim cases work best.
